Why do the Leaves on the Trees Change Color in the Fall?

The children have been slowly noticing that many of the leaves at our school are changing colors. But the reasoning mind of a child varies according to a child’s level of interest and understanding. We have been talking about this topic for a few weeks and every day the reasons change, for the youngest students have come to the conclusion that either someone paints them during the night time or the trees just want to change their color because they are bored with green all the time. Howeve,r the older children have other ideas from knowing from past experiences that this happens every year. And some children have realized that the food the trees have gathered through their leaves has filled them up, and that they can no longer eat anymore. Some of the children even understand the science of how the sugar in the leaves has finally changed its way of providing food for the tree and now they can no longer function the way it did before. Children are just amazing aren’t they?
