Can you figure out this riddle? ” What can you hear but can not see and what can you smell but can not taste?”
The answer to this riddle can be easily solved by having a short discussion with your child about their visit to Great Valley Nature Center. All the students participated in a variety of activities while using their five senses to discover what nature can offer. They learned how a tree makes it’s food from nature and what that food tastes like. They also discovered that a rainbow of colors can be found by looking at all of the plants, flowers and animals. The children made their own special smelling tea and shared them with one another. One of the more unique activities the children loved was trying to find a variety of textures by feeling around the plants, rocks and branches. They also enjoyed playing a listening game by closing their eyes and standing very still in order to identify as many sounds as they could. I suggest that the next time you and your child are going out for a walk or bike ride you too can play these games with your child to learn even more.
