Many Elementary students have been studying poetry this month. Some are reading poems and drawing pictures of what they interpret from reading a poem. Others are learning about meter and feet within a poem, and what the different types of meter are called. A few students really enjoy writing their own poems in rhyming couplets, ballad form, or free verse. These pictures are taken when students recited a poem from memory. Some of the favorite poets are Emily Dickinson, Shel Silverstein, A.A. Milne, Maya Angelou, and Robert Frost. Occasionally, the students are able to listen to recordings of the poet themselves reading their poem. It is a creative and fun time in the Elementary classroom right now!
