Our MUPs enjoyed their special ride in the van with Mr. Pete. He was very good about knowing what kids like to see on the drive and talked about all the sights, especially wear Benjamin Franklin was buried and some history about Philadelphia. The children also shared what they knew about different presidents with him. Our main trip took the children to visit the Constitution Center, where they explored a variety of interesting exhibits and have a special tour with Mr. Brian. Mr. Brian discussed with the MUPs what it was like to grown up in America for children from the 1700-present. The students had the opportunity to ask lots of questions, try on colonial clothes and play some games. We also walked among the statues of the all the signers of the Declaration of Independence. The children were able to sign their own name to the Constitution and visit with many of the representatives. Our group also took time to explore how to become a President by walking through an interactive exhibit. They were very excited to explore that exhibit! After lunch the children walked down to Independence Hall and visited the Liberty Bell. It is always exciting to see the children’s faces light up with wonder and hear their questions about this famous bell. Many of the children learned about the history of the bell before they visited it, so all of their information came to life once they actually saw it. On the way back to school the children shared stories and ate soft pretzels as a treat for the day.
