The Elementary students have been working very hard in the many areas of the classroom, one of them being Language. The children have been reading phonetic words, sight words, and phrases. Additionally, they have been working with moveable alphabets and creating dialogues with each other. Students have explored our grammar boxes and sentence analysis, sometimes both within the same lesson. This involves analyzing a sentence and deciphering all the parts of speech. The children have all been working on their personal dictionaries, improving their spelling abilities. To help challenge one another to expand this skill, students have participated in spelling bees.
Their imagination has come through by writing and illustrating stories, working with story starters and building upon them with their natural creativity. We have also studied the writing mediums of poetry and narratives. Our young authors have explored written expression and improved their creative writing with types of phrases and clauses, and have learned how to use inventive adjectives and adverbs in their writing. Students have studied affixes (suffixes and prefixes) and one group worked with many of the –ology words, such as biology and psychology.
Finally, the elementary children have been researching various topics, including their Going Out topics. What a wonderful classroom, full of amazing writing projects!
