The graduates were so excited to go on this special trip designed just for them. Once all of the children and teachers were settled into the van we were on our way to Philadelphia. From the windows of the van the children saw several exciting things, such as Mrs. Peters’ house, the Philadelphia Art Museum, 30th Street Station, and they were thrilled by the Vine St. underpasses that they believed to be tunnels. At the Constitution Center the children viewed a wonderful movie about “How we the people gained our freedom from England” and a taste of the history of our country. Our group took a special walk looking for the Pennsylvania state flag, state floor plate and viewed a variety of historical exhibits. After that we explored the signers’ room, where each of the signers of the “Declaration of Independence” was represented by tall bronze statues the children could pose with. Our graduates were able to sign their own name in the signers’ book, because they too are a part of “We the People” promise. After lunch we walked over to see the Liberty Bell and discovered the history of the bell and why it is so important to all of us. We then took a short walk over to the Bourse and ate ice cream! During out ride back to school we entertained each other with a lot of songs and giggles.
