The children have been exploring various needs that plants have in order to grow and how best to care for them both inside our classroom and out in the garden. The children spent a few minutes looking over the garden and discovered that not all of the plants growing in the patches were supposed to be there. OH NO! We have weeds, and the children know that weeds will only choke their good plants’ roots. They took a little time to pull weeds and then place the weeds in a compost pile to be used another time. If you have a garden, have your child share with the class what is happening in their gardens at home with the class. For the younger children just drawing a picture of their garden share with the class is enough but for the older students the children can make small journals of their discoveries to share.
