Next week we have the honor of hosting AMI consultant, Dr. Kay Baker. Dr. Baker is the Director of Training for the elementary program at the Washington Montessori Institute at Layola College in Maryland. She holds a diploma in both AMI primary and elementary. As a recognized AMI Montessori School we are visited by an AMI consultant every three years. It is truly a privilege to have Dr. Baker as our consultant. We are very excited for her visit!

Dr. Baker has a B.A. in mathematics, an M.A. in mathematics education, and a Ph.D. in mathematics education. Her dissertation was entitled “Children’s Solution Strategies for Multiplication Word Problems.” She is a school consultant for AMI/USA, author of journal articles for the North American Montessori Teacher’s Association and AMI Communications, and a keynote speaker at Montessori conferences. Dr. Baker has a particular interest in enhancing the development of thinking in children. Dr. Baker started teaching in 1960, obtained her first Montessori certification in 1972, and started training Montessori teachers in 1989.
