Welcome to a new and exciting year! For those who do not me, let me tell you a little about myself.
I started working for Valley Forge Kinder House as a camp counselor when I was in tenth grade.
During the summer months, I came out from Nebraska to visit my father in Pennsylvania and have been working for the school ever since. This year will be my 35th year.
I have always been interested in working with young children. My mother once told me a story about myself when I was nine years old. She always knew exactly where to find me if she wasn’t sure where I was. She said, “I bet she is in the backyard or in our apartment stairwell teaching those little neighborhood friends.” I guess I was just a natural-born teacher. Becoming a teacher is a lot of work, but I was determined to become one.
Once I finished my high school years in Nebraska, I moved back to Pennsylvania and graduated from West Chester University with a Bachelor’s Degree of Science in Early Childhood Education. By this time, I was greatly encouraged by Mrs. Kelly to become a Montessori teacher. I moved to Washington D.C. for a year and received my Montessori teacher certification from Washington Montessori Institute. Once I began to teach, I realized rather early that I was truly going to stay with this school for as long as I could. I have a lot of wonderful memories working with all of my students and I wouldn’t want to work anywhere else.
Favorite Hobbies
Besides working at the school, I also enjoy a few hobbies including taking long walks on the trails, gardening, and creating a large variety of crafts such as crocheting hats, hat and scarf sets, baby booties and primary hats, afghans, and lap robes for a variety of charities within the area. I also embroidery and counter cross-stitch gifts for my family and friends. I enjoy signing in my church choirs and in a few special choirs during the holiday season. My biggest hobby is actually working with all of your delightful children and I truly thank you for letting me have the opportunity to guide them.
I’m looking forward to seeing all of you at upcoming school events. I also want you to know that I’m here to help support you and your child in any way I can as they grow and develop their skills at our school. If you have any questions please feel free to call the office or email me and we can schedule a time to talk.
