    It’s Ground Hog Day!
The children discovered that Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow so we have six more weeks of winter. Unfortunately, the children have also discovered that some of our Spring flowers in the gardens are starting to sprout out of the ground and wondered if the ground hog was confused. So, we had a short discussion about our weather patterns this year and how our weather can predict how nature will react if it thinks Spring is coming. However, the children also became very excited that we might still get some snow this year before Spring actually arrives.

    Elementary Walk-a-Thon
This Friday the Walk-a-Thon will be ending. That means that the elementary children have been wearing their pedometers and tracking their steps for a whole month! What a wonderful way to combine healthy exercise with raising money! The elementary students have been getting sponsors all month to help support the children going to the MMUN in April. They can get sponsors from now until Friday, so keep that in mind if you are interested in being a sponsor. Thank you to all who have helped them with this great month of health!

    Open House
We had an amazing turn-out for our Open House last Friday evening! The children were so excited to show their parents and grandparents their work. Earlier in the day each child had the opportunity to peel, slice or cut vegetables for their parents. Our afternoon class beautifully arranged the veggies on three separate trays. They were so proud of their work. On Thursday afternoon, the afternoon class cleaned the whole classroom. They dusted shelves, cleaned all of the materials, washed chalkboards and even swept the floor. What a wonderful group of children!

I wanted to give a special thanks to each one on our Hospitality committee. Thank you for all that you do to make each one of our events so special.

I'm sure the children will have lots to talk about on Monday. They had looked forward to the Open House. We hope you enjoyed spending this time with your children as this is so very special to them. Thank you all for coming. Please don't hesitate to call if you have any questions.

A Visit to our Classroom-Open House
The children have been so excited about the Open House coming and have been preparing their classroom for your special visit. They truly love to show all of their parents the work they have been working on and how excited their own learning experiences have been. We hope all of you have a great time in our classroom with your child learning just like they do. The children also prepared a light snack for you to enjoy so don’t forget to visit the Kinder Kammer room. Please let us know how you enjoyed the lessons your children present to you.

    The Universe of Knowledge
The Elementary class is working hard, enjoying the repetition of materials, and researching amazing topics of interest in their Going Out projects. Some have studied animal cells, some are working with pre-algebra materials, and others are exploring grammar boxes. Each child is discovering the universe of knowledge at their own pace, experiencing challenges and insights often. They are looking forward to sharing their knowledge with their parents at the Parent/Child Night tomorrow night!

    Winter Warmth
I hope you are enjoying our mild winter. I’m sure the children enjoyed the snow last weekend. Many of them shared how they went sledding or built a snowman. Hopefully we’ll see a little more of the “white stuff” before the Spring to help us really believe we’re in the Winter season.

We are so happy to say that three new children have joined our class. Wyatt, Amanda, and Marcus are delightful children and have adjusted well to our class. They are now doing their work mostly by themselves. Our older children in the class have been so helpful and kind to these new little ones. It is so much fun to see Cameron (who was our youngest child last year) help Marcus (who’s 2 ½) hang up his coat, then take him by the hand and take him to the classroom. Watching Sawyer (who was one of our youngest this year) earnestly help Amanda clean up her lunch almost brings tears to my eyes! And seeing Chase (also one of our youngest this year) help Wyatt build his Pink Tower is wonderful to watch!

Please come on Friday night for our Open House so that your child will have the opportunity to show you his/her work in the class. I look forward to seeing you then!

Gung Hay Fat Choy to All of You!
We celebrated the Chinese New Year by visiting Mrs. Peters’ class and tasting Chinese treats that Mrs. Trice brought to share. The coconut treats seemed to be the best according to the children. The afternoon children also spent a little more time learning about Chinese traditions, making paper lanterns and banners for their homes and learning about the Chinese lunar calendar and why this year is the year of the dragon. Gung Hay Fat Choy means best wishes and a prosperous and good year. The twelve animals that represent the Chinese calendar are the dragon, serpent, horse, ram, monkey, rooster, dog, boar, rat, ox, tiger and hare. According to the tradition, each person born in a particular animal year is thought to have similar characteristics of that animal. Most of our afternoon students were the dog (06), boar (07) or rat (08).

Welcome Back and Happy New Year to All!
I want to welcome all of you back to school. I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday break and the chance for a little relaxation and rest. The children came back to class with delightful smiles, eager to get back to their favorite work and share their holiday experiences with one another. On Wednesday Jan. 4th we will welcome two new students to our class. After meeting with both Sarah Trice (Kelly’s younger sister) and Mukti Patel (Ishaan’s younger sister) I know that they are both looking forward to working with the other children and making new friends. Our class will then have a total of seventeen students, so please adjust your snack quantity when sending snack on your snack day. Thank you!
